Synonymous with innovative and affordable motor cars, Hyundai was first introduced via a distributor arrangement in Australia in January 1986.
Since September 1997, Hyundai's distribution has been headquartered in a purpose-designed $47 million office, parts warehouse and service training complex on Sydney Harbour’s Homebush Bay.
Hyundai Motor Co Australia (HMCA) Pty Ltd was established on October 1st, 2003 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Co in Korea and took over all distribution of the brand’s cars and lifestyle vehicles in Australia.
Today, Hyundai cars are distributed nationally to over 140 franchised retail dealers, administered through HMCA regional offices in all mainland states.
The image of Hyundai cars in Australia has rapidly matured from a perception of low-priced light and small cars to that of a full line passenger car - marque of quality, variety and individuality, usually setting segment benchmarks for value-for-money and matching or exceeding key competitors in other areas. This reflects the expansion between September 1999 and March 2002 of the brand’s local model range to nine carlines from just four throughout the 90s.
