The new i30 N.

Hyundai recently tested a camouflaged i30 N prototype hot hatch at Australia's most iconic racing circuit, Mt Panorama, Bathurst.

The i30 N car competed in the Nulon Nationals hill climb against a wide variety of fast cars. Hyundai engineers used the unique competitive opportunity to log data as the prototype tackled the difficult twists and turns of the sensational Mount Panorama track.

Several i30 N prototypes have been in Australia secretly testing since January this year, including hot weather endurance testing as well as rigorous quality and performance checks.

As the i30 N is designed to be a hot hatch that will be at home on the race track, testing at Mount Panorama was an important part of its global engineering development programme.

Stay tuned for more images and videos soon as we tell the story of this cool prototype's trip Down Under.

"Heart-pumping hot hatch that nobody should dismiss lightly." - 19th May 2017 "A depth of engineering and technology that goes beyond even its lauded chief rival (Golf GTI), and to prove the i30N will be a finely honed, heart-pumping hot hatch that nobody should dismiss lightly.

Both cars are a barrel of fun to drive, offering more steering feel, response and feedback and more lift-off oversteer than a GTI, while also being incredibly stable and reassuring."

"It simply begs to be driven at the limit – all the time." - 18th May 2017 "This isn’t just a tremendous effort, it’s bloody brilliant. Hyundai is now a bona-fide member of the real-deal hot-hatch club, no question."

"Hyundai could have created itself an overnight hero." - 18th May 2017 Where the i30N really shines is in the way it ties everything together through the corners, with tremendous grip, great traction and brilliant brakes.

Our preview drive has showcased that Hyundai has created a car that could re-set a few dynamic benchmarks straight off the bat. It's fast, fun and flexible. It's a proper hot hatch.

Volkswagen has taken 40 years to create a hot hatch icon, but Hyundai could have created itself an overnight hero."
