Hyundai smashes February sales for a six

Hyundai sells 8,003 vehicles in February – highest February sales on record
Hyundai ranked third overall for total sales in February
Hyundai ranked third overall for passenger car sales in February
Hyundai ranked first in the Light Car <$25k segment in February
Hyundai ranked first in the Sport Car <$80k segment

5th March 2015 - Hyundai Motor Company Australia has finished February in third position in the overall sales ranking, with sales of 8,003 units, an increase of +2.6% YOY and equating to an 8.9% market share. Hyundai’s passenger car sales of 5,186 units placed the brand in fourth position ahead of Holden, Volkswagen and Ford, with a 12.7% market share.

Hyundai has returned to first place in the Sports Car <$80k and Small SUV <$40k segments in February while combined sales of i20 and Accent additionally saw Hyundai secure first place in the Light Car <$25k segment. Three other Hyundai models achieved podium results in February with iMax and iLoad finishing in second place in their respective segments while i30 finished in 3rd place in the Small <$40k segment.

Hyundai reclaimed its dominance in the Sports Car <$80k segment with Veloster achieving total sales for the month of 267 units and a segment share of 25.9%. In the Small SUV <$40k, the ix35 continued its leading position achieving 1,856 units sold and a segment share of 22.1%.

Hyundai’s People Mover the iMax and the workhorse iLoad continue to deliver great results. Both models finished in second place in their respective segments with iMax achieving sales of 196 units and a segment share of 22.0%, while iLoad finished the month with total sales of 396 units and a segment share of 29.2%

In the Small < $40k segment Hyundai’s i30 recorded total sales for the month of 2,126 units with a market share of 12.1%.

Hyundai achieved two Top Ten model sales for the month of February with i30 placing 5th with sales of 2,126 units, and ix35 placing 9th with sales of 1,856 units.

“Finishing February in such a strong position is very encouraging for the Hyundai brand and places us exactly where we need to be at this point in time,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia COO, John Elsworth. “We are working on consolidating and supporting the recent introduction of new models before we hit the market with exciting new product later in the year.”

Light Cars <$25k: i20 ranked 3rd with sales of 1,018 units, while combined sales of i20 (1,018 units) and Accent (682 units) achieved a total of 1,700 units and a combined market share of 20.0%
Small Cars <$40k: i30 ranked 3rd with sales of 2,126 units, while combined sales of i30 (2,126 units) and Elantra (574 units) achieved a total 2,700 units and a combined segment share of 15.3%
Medium <$60k: i40 ranked 5th with sales of 170 units and 4.5% segment share. All-new Sonata ranked 9th with sales of 110 units and a market share of 2.9%
Large <$70k: Genesis ranked 4th with sales of 43 units and 1.3% segment share
SUV Small <$40k: ix35 ranked 1st with sales of 1,856 units and 22.1% segment share
SUV Large <$70k: Santa Fe ranked 8th with sales of 565 units and 5.9% segment share
Sports Cars <$80k: Veloster ranked 1st with sales of 267 units and 25.9% segment share
People Movers <$60K: iMax ranked 2nd with sales of 196 units and 22.0% segment share
Van/CC 2.5-3.5t: iLoad ranked 2nd with sales of 396 units and 29.2% segment share
Hyundai Motor America reported its best February sales result in company history, selling 52,505 units for the month, +7.0% versus the same period last year. Genesis sedan led the charge with +175 percent increase over last year, Elantra recorded a +1.0% increase while Sonata and Santa Fe Sport were up +33.0% and +42.0% respectively.
