Money Can't Buy Experiences

Hyundai Help for Kids has been busy providing sporting fun to children who enjoyed money-can’t-buy exclusive experiences at an A-League match at Allianz Stadium in early January, with Make-A-Wish Australia recipient Sam and his family getting a VIP tour of the stadium before tossing the coin for the kick-off of the curtain-raising W-League game, and then watching the encounter from the players’ enclosure behind the team bench. A similarly priceless game-day experience was hosted by Hyundai Australia at a Newcastle Jets A-League fixture for families from Ronald McDonald House Newcastle.

Bear Cottage

Bear Cottage is one of the many partners supported by Hyundai Help for Kids. An initiative of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Bear Cottage provides respite and palliative care for children with life-limiting illnesses, and their families.

Established in 2001, entirely through community support, at a cost of $10 million, it is a warm, welcoming place, designed to feel as removed from the hospital environment as possible, and to provide a place for families - many of whom have cared for their sick children around the clock.

As well as donating funds for the Child Life Therapy program at this inspiring institution, Hyundai Help for Kids recently hosted a number of families in Hyundai Australia’s elegant corporate suite at Qudos Bank Arena where they enjoyed The Wiggles - Wiggly Christmas Big Show, in fine style.

For many of the families, it was a chance to give the siblings of their young ones a chance to enjoy themselves, it was clear from the photos just how hugely appreciated, and what a rare treat, the day out was.

Hyundai Help for Kids iView

There’s a similar mix of joy, relief and gratitude on the many, many smiling faces in the attached video wrap-up for the Hyundai Help for Kids iView season, which is so emotionally charged it would be hard for even the toughest AFL footballer not to wipe a tear from his/her steely eye.

The iView is a devoted space created in conjunction with the Brisbane Lions and hosts the best seats in their home ground, the Gabba, which are themed for each match (pirates, hip-hop and Mexican, to name just a few) and provide a place for children and their parents to have a fantastic family fun day at the footy.

Hyundai Help for Kids has been able to offer the space to families receiving help from their wonderful partners and local organisations, including Make-A-Wish Australia, the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation, Darling Point Special School, Down Syndrome Victoria’s Queensland office, the Mater Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia and the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children.

Not only do the kids get to have a ball watching the game, they also meet the players, and the Lions mascot, and to have a fabulous party time with “the hostess with the most-ess”, Penny from the Brisbane Lions.

While it’s clear to see just how much fun the kids are having, there’s so much gratitude reflected in the faces of the parents. “We appreciate it more than what you could imagine,” as one Dad says.

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead

And finally, the wards at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead received a visit from a very special and unique character; Jino, from the animated kids’ TV show Power Battle Watch Cars.

Jino, a striking figure with hair that looks like a small blue explosion, hosted a watching party in the Starlight Room, where the kids could catch up on the latest episodes, and handed out Power Battle Watch Cars toys, as well as posing for plenty of selfies.
